Climate change impacts global and regional water resources and indirectly increases water-related tensions and regional stress. The eastern Mediterranean, at the boundary between the Sahara and Arabian deserts and the mid-latitude wetter climates of Europe and the Near East is considered a hot spot of climate change. Rainfall in the region is mainly focused during brief and intense storms termed heavy precipitation events. Such storms can cause damaging floods but are also the major contributors to water resources. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the change in rainfall patterns during large storms, induced by global warming, which is the main topic of my research.
